"Single" Mother

I was mostly raised by my mother. My personality aligns mostly with my father and he was around, but not for the majority of the time.

As long as I’ve been around, there has always been a negative stigma about single mothers. But as far as I can see and as much as I’ve lived with a single mother, these women are the most resourceful, most project managing, most “figure this shit out because I have to” - ass people in the world. When another human being relies on you for survival? ….there’s nothing you won’t do to give them your best.

I was speaking to a friend today, who shared a message from an elder and it made me think differently and more clearly about single mothers.

I now think, there's no such thing as a single mother. She is supported by all the mothers who came before her (seen and unseen, known and unknown).

You just can't see it, so stop judging her (...or yourself if you identify as such).

To all the “single mothers” there’s no one built like you. You don’t get an ounce of the credit you deserve. I appreciate you.
