Life Hack: Curbing Sugar Addiction
If you have a sweet tooth (or are prone to sweets in general) try this:
After having something sweet, brush your teeth immediately afterward to get the taste out of your mouth.
I’m no scientist, but I believe there’s a “taste memory” or “taste imprint” left on your tongue that makes you want more sugar- which could be why you reach for more. This is how one piece of cake turns in to two, three and the whole thing, or one skittle turns into the whole bag….I think!
If you wash/brush off the taste completely, it might lower your chances of you reaching for it again- at least immediately. This is a theory. Take it or leave it. But really, try it and see.
The way I see it, treats are genetically modified to trigger your “I need some more” responses. Sugar is clearly a drug. You can cut those responses off by flipping the script a bit. The scientists who make foods addictive aren’t expecting you to brush your teeth many times a day, so try it and see if it curbs the expected results.
Besides brushing your teeth often is excellent dental hygiene. If for nothing else, do it for this reason alone.
….I be having hunches, y’all. Sometimes them shits be right! I’m just sayin….
